9.5.11 summer photos of the day

Today we took it easy, had a late brunch and then headed over the hills to Santa Cruz. All we did was watch the surfers. While driving along the coast, we saw some surfers and a great overlook. I didn’t know it at the time but we had stumbled onto one of Santa Cruz’s greatest breaks, Steamer Lane. This break is known for having large waves that break along a rock bluff and an intense locals only attitude. I don’t blame them, I would want to keep out the riff raff too! I would imagine a place like this, already crowded with the world class surfers who live in SC, would be just un-surfable with out the locals protecting it. So, I climbed over the railing onto the rocks and started shooting. I could have stayed there all day. In my next life I want to live on the CA coast and be a surfer. If you know any of the surfers in the photos, let me/them know!
